Methana – a volcanic island ; the sleeping beauty of the God Hepheaistos. An old volcano, classified as still active and featuring many thermal springs
Methana was born as a volcanic island a couple of million years ago but became connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus that rose up from the sea during one of the many eruptions and accompanying earthquakes. The island now sleeps allowing visitors to visit the town, port, beaches and many thermal springs.
There is nothing like a day trip to the island that is still Greek and not spoiled by mass tourism.
A pretty port with many yachts and ferries. The island is famous for pistachio nuts, found along the quay or in the maze of small side streets. There are many interesting, small shops, tavernas, ice cream palours, bars etc.
